Why do you need conflict management training?

Organizations need to establish a conflict management framework to empower their employees to navigate conflict in the workplace. I believe every employee should receive conflict resolution training- not just upper management. When all employees are involved in learning conflict management skills, they are empowered to resolve their own problems. This can lead to a myriad of benefits.

Some of the benefits of conflict management training include:

Empowers employees to resolve their own conflicts

Streamlines the resolution process and saves time

Encourages cooperation and allow the opportunity for more diverse perspectives

Builds employee relationships

Strengthens relationships with customers

Learning a new skill should be fun and engaging, not just a lecture where the speaker does all the talking. Participants want to sit in a workshop that is engaging, and they are learning something. Otherwise, it would be a waste of time and money. That’s why my highest priority is conducting highly involved and informative workshops where we can all learn from each other’s experiences. I currently offer three workshops that cover long-forgotten techniques such as listening and managing emotions.

1. Back to the Basics: Conquering Conflict Conundrums

 Workshop Length: 1 hour

Conflict is complex and challenging to navigate. The good news is that understanding the basics of conflict resolution can help navigate the complex challenges presented in conflict. The first step of conflict resolution is understanding what conflict is and how individuals deal with conflict. This workshop will provide a beginning foundation to help empower individuals to navigate conflict better.

In this workshop, participants will learn the following:

  • Busting the Myths of Conflict
  • The Five Types of Conflict Styles
  • How to Assess your Conflict Style
  • Strategies to determine how to best approach conflict

2. How to be More Present in a Conversation

Workshop Length: 1-3 hours

Effective listening is critical in mitigating conflict. Listening does not guarantee that conflict will never happen, nor will it solve all problems. However, improving our listening can reduce the “argumentativeness of disagreement.” (Nichols, 2009). This workshop focuses on four areas relating to improving our listening skills at work and home: securing a strong listening foundation, anchoring our emotions, constructing cables of empathy, and eliminating conversational roadblocks.

In this workshop, participants will learn the following:

  • How to recognize and remove common listening roadblocks
  • How to listen to gain an understanding of others’ perspectives
  • How to express and encourage empathy
  • How to overcome emotions when listening
  • How to listen without feeling anxious
  • When to stop listening

3. Navigating Interpersonal Relationships at Work.

Workshop Length: 2-3 hours

Effective interpersonal communication is at the heart of successful organizations, given that employees interact with others daily. Employees need skills that will empower them to handle challenging situations with others at work.

In this workshop, participants will learn the following:

  • How to frame dialogue in ways that are conducive to cooperation
  • How to overcome interpersonal differences in groups and dyads
  • How to engage in long-forgotten listening practices to build trust and common ground.
  • How to participate in more productive conversations with those who hold different perspectives from their own.
  • How to manage emotions to overcome interpersonal barriers
  • How to engage in brainstorming sessions that encourage diverse perspectives.
